Aikido
Aged 13 & above

What may seem at first glance to be another art of self-defense, on more careful observation, derived from an ancient warrior art with an added element of “Discipline of Coordination”, a way of strengthening mind and body, merging the physical and mental powers which assist in the development of a more wholly integrated and well rounded person. It builds reflexes, fitness & self-confidence. It is a form of breathing & physical exercise. It helps to focus, relax and de-stress. It instills discipline, discover self-harmony and strengthen personal foundation.
Ai – the coordination or harmony
Ki – the mental energy
Do – the method or way
Basically Aikido focuses on mental, physical, and Ki.
You can blend the art into one’s daily life: -

INSTRUCTORS’ PROFILES
- Master Koh Nai Sing
Master Koh started training aikido at SAFRA Bukit Merah Club House in the early 80's. Was a Singapore Aikikai committee member in the mid 90's and was an instructor in the late 90's for the Federation Aikido. Early 2000 Co-founded Zhen Qi Shu in early 2000 and set-up Club Aikido in 2003. He has a keen interest in many forms of martial arts- Karate, TaeKwonDo, Wushu, Boxing and so on.
Through times, came to realise the relationship of speed, power accuracy, reflexes, and awareness in martial arts training. Each individual has difference in built and characteristics in mind and body forms. So a versatile and simple approach in learning and training process will help trainees pick up and understand martial arts faster. Let our mind be open and free, so ideas and forms can flow freely. Share and show one another new ways, so that our learnings, achievements, and advancements are unlimited. Harmony and love is the root to peace and co-existence.

What Is QIGONG?
Qigong is and ancient Chinese art that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. It cultivates energy particularly for health, healing and increasing vitality.
It’s BENEFITS?
The gently, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions. “In order to generate chi, systems or movements have been developed to harness this. It improves blood circulation and keeps one’s mind alert. It is not a martial art and is imbued only in the ideals of meditation”
Those who maintain a consistent practice of Qigong find that it helps one regain a youthful vitality, maintain health even into old age and helps speed recovery from illness. It encourages positive outlook on life and helps eliminate harmful attitudes and behaviors. It also creates a balanced life style, which brings greater harmony, stability and enjoyment.
For WHOM?
The slow gentle movements of Qigong which can be easily adapted appeal to all age groups and walk of lives. Anyone and enrich their lives by adding Qigong to their daily routine. Children learn to channel their energy and develop increased concentration; office workers took up Qigong to reduce stress; those young at hearts practice Qigong to enhance balance and their quality of life; midwives use Qigong techniques to ease child birth.

TAIJI a Gateway to a new Lifestyle! What is the best low impact form of exercise suitable for the youngsters as well as for the elderly? Read on to find out more!
You may want to consider Taiji Quan, an ancient martial arts that looks like a cross between shadow boxing and slow-motion ballet. Taiji Quan combines intense mental focus with deliberate, graceful movements that improve strength, agility and particularly important for the elderly – balance.
Taiji offers the greatest benefit to older men and women who are healthy but relatively inactive. Regular practice helps to reduces falls among healthy elderly. There are several styles of Taiji Quan, with beginners starting with a series of controlled movements or forms. It can take a few months for effects to kick in, but once Taiji practitioners start feeling better, they often become more active in their daily routines.
According to some Taiji Quan experts, any form of exercise, of course, can do only so much. Youngsters probably need more of an aerobics challenge, but they can benefit from Taiji Quan to reduce stress in this fast advance lifestyles we are living now.
INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Master Tay has been Taiji Quan practitioner since the early days in the 1980. Since mastering Taiji Quan skills from Master Wu of Taiwan, he has taught many students at Yong Chin Sports Association and Taipei Buddhist Association. He was engaged by Singapore Swimming Club in 1985 and since then has been imparting these popular martial arts to fellow SSC members. To date, a handful of loyal SSC Taiji Quan followers are still practicing with Master Tay on a weekly basis.

Wudang Taiji Quan

Over the centuries, Taiji Quan has developed into a Chinese discipline for health, strength, self-defence and self-cultivation. It improves an individual’s circulation, balance, coordination and helps to relax and strengthen the muscular and nervous system. It is also typically practiced for a variety of other personal reasons. It is a hard and soft martial arts technique, demonstration competitions, and longevity. Consequently, a multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, which correspond to those aims.

Currently, Master Ong is an instructor and judge with Yuan Dao Wushu Institude.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
• COMMENCEMENT - Please do not commence lessons until confirmation by either letter of commencement or verbal confirmation with Sports Department. Members are advised to commence lessons at the starts of any month as there is no pro-rate of lessons’ charges should members wish to starts otherwise.
• FREE TRIAL & GUESTS - Free Trials are available for all on-going classes.
Guests are not allowed in all classes except for those with low participant rate or pending for commencement. Please check with Sports staff @ 6342 3616 for more details.
• TERMINATION - Termination of lessons VERBALLY will not be accepted. Members who wish to terminate lessons are required to give the following notice in writing to the Sports Department via Post / Fax / Email: -
- Letters received dated 1st to 20th will take effect on 1st of next month.
- Letters received dated 21st to month end will take effect on 1st of the month after next.
• Request for IMMEDIATE TERMINATION or PRO-RATE of lessons’ charges due to medical reasons must be supported by official medical certifications. For all other reasons, members are requested to write in officially to the Sports Department, subject to the management’s approval.
• TEMPORARY CESSATION is not allowed. Members are requested to give the required notice to terminate lessons and to re-submit a fresh enrolment form to rejoin lessons.
• Upon receipt of termination letter, an acknowledgement will be sent to confirm the effective date of termination. Please call Sports Department if you do not receive any form of confirmation to your termination of lessons within 2 weeks.
• All Matters pertaining to the Fitness / Martial Arts Classes & Group Coaching Program must be referred to the Sports Department. Confirmation between members and instructors or coaches on all matters concerning Fitness / Martial Arts Classes & Group Coaching Program will not be recognized.
• No Lessons on Official Public Holidays and Eves of New Year and Chinese New Year
(unless otherwise stated in the letter of commencement).
Lessons charges will be pro-rated for cancellation of lessons due to Club Official Events or unavailability of replacement during the absence of instructors.
• The management’s decision on all matters pertaining to Fitness/Martial Arts & Group Coaching Program shall be final.
